Miller Nash Partner Receives 2009 Oregon State Bar President's Public Service Award

Bruce Rubin Recognized for Substantial Contributions to the Community

Portland, Ore. – Dec. 3, 2009 – Miller Nash LLP partner Bruce Rubin received the 2009 Oregon State Bar (OSB) President's Public Service Award. This award, announced yesterday at a special OSB dinner at the Benson Hotel, is given to attorneys who have made substantial contributions to the public through recent efforts involving pro bono services, the legislative/public affairs process, law-related education, coordination of public service law-related events, service with community boards/organizations or similar activities that benefit the public.

"Bruce is incredibly deserving of this award," said Gerry Gaydos, president of the OSB. "I am delighted to see that he has been recognized for his distinguished and outstanding service to the Oregon legal community."

In addition his primary practice in commercial litigation, Rubin handles many pro bono cases and has been representing the bar in prosecuting disciplinary cases and instances of the unauthorized practice of law for more than 25 years. Rubin was appointed to the bar's Pro Bono committee in 2007 and was instrumental in amending the state's Supreme Court House Counsel Admission Rule to allow people who are admitted under the rule to handle pro bono matters.

Nationally, he is active on the Committee on Corporate Counsel with the Litigation section of the American Bar Association, serving as co-chair of its legal ethics subcommittee. Rubin has also served on the OSB's Affirmative Action and Judicial Administration committees and is a member of the board of directors of the Classroom Law Project. He has also served as Miller Nash LLP's pro bono coordinator.

Rubin has taught trial advocacy as a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel's Trial Academy faculty. He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America for his commercial litigation skills and earned his J.D. from Stanford University in 1976.
